Sustainability in Runswick Bay
Acheiving sustainability is something we at Runswick Bay Cottages have been giving a lot of thought and we are trying to change the way we operate.
Already, there are many eco initiatives within the village. The new rock armour which surrounds the North side of the village has not only stabilised the village but has created eco pockets for sealife to thrive. An award winning ecological enhancement programme exists which is monitored regularly by the Yorkshire Marine Nature Partnership. You can read about it here.
We have recently started to supply eco and marine friendly, vegan, organic handwashes in some of our cottages. Working with Yorkshire based, Chapter Organics, we're starting to roll out their gorgeous smelling products that have an ethical conscience. You can read about their mission here:
Where possible, our owners are starting to install EV charge points but this is never going to be fully possible in the lower village. Coastguard Cottage and Sandpiper at the top of the bank are able to offer this facility should you need it when staying with us. Coastguard Cottage is powered by solar panels. With plenty of sunshine on our coastline - they're paving the way for others to follow.
Our local authority has installed EV chargers to the bank top car park. The Runswick Bay Hotel proudly has a Rolec EV charger for occasional users to buy tokens.
There is a #2MinuteBeachClean board on the slipway to the beach with bags and litter pickers.
All our cottages recycle waste helped by North Yorkshire Council. Guests are asked to separate their waste during their stay.
All of our cottages have low energy LED lightbulbs and some are installing eco radiators which are replacing the old fashioned storage heaters..
Runswick Bay is a village without gas - so we were already ahead of the game being all electric! Who knew!
More to come....
