No arrivals on a Sunday
Square Rig is a delightful cottage, at the entrance to Runswick Bay lower village.
It was demolished in 1995, and rebuilt on the same footprint, over three floors, with the main entrance via a short flight of stone steps to the rear of the cottage.
The open plan living and kitchen area is on the middle floor with fully equipped kitchen, dining table and chairs, lounge with sofas, TV and Juliette balcony with double doors to enjoy the sea views. The top floor has a large bedroom with king size bed and vaulted ceiling and a twin bedroom both with sea views. There is a house bathroom here with bath and shower.
There is a further shower room and twin bedroom on the ground floor, which has access to the enclosed garden - a rarity in Runswick Bay. This ground floor bedroom is not in use when occupancy is for up to 4 people. Only the top 2 bedrooms are made available.
Different rates apply for the cottage use. For 2 people staying, bedrooms not paid for are locked. Please ensure you advise us so the correct pricing can be applied. The full rate applies at peak times regardless of occupancy. 2 people and an infant will have access to one bedroom unless the full house is reserved.
Square Rig is a property over three floors, with the main entrance via a short flight of stone steps to the rear of the cottage. In more detail the accommodation offers....
Top Floor
The large double bedroom has fabulous sea views and is equipped with a King sized bed, a wall mounted "smart" flat screen TV, matching bedside tables, a large chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The bedroom is also equipped with a hairdryer.
The cosy second bedroom on this floor is a twin bedroom.
The elegant bathroom on the top floor has a full size bath with plumbed shower above, wash basin, toilet and airing cupboard.
Beds are made up for your arrival. One large towel per person, a hand towel and bath mat are provided per bathroom. Please bring your own beach towels.
Middle Floor
The open plan living space is accessed via stone steps at the rear of the cottage.
The kitchen area within this space is fully equipped with floor and wall units, granite work surfaces, large pantry with small chest freezer, dishwasher, cooker, fridge, Nespresso coffee machine and microwave, along with a kitchen table and chairs.
The lounge area has amazing views with double French doors leading to a small balcony with a table and two chairs - the most idyllic setting for a romantic dinner or breakfast. Inside there is a three seater and matching two seater sofa, along with two armchairs. The room has a remotely operated contemporary electric fire, and a wall mounted "Smart TV".
As mobile reception is unreliable in Runswick Village, there is also a landline telephone provided for emergency calls and free wifi.
Ground Floor
The bathroom on this floor has a corner shower, wash basin and toilet - made available for occupancy of 4 or more.
There is a ground floor bedroom here and this level leads to the enclosed garden and has a stone flagged floor. It has a small kitchen area, equipped with a fridge, washing machine, Belfast sink, kettle, and toaster - everything you need for a perfect start to the morning with breakfast in the garden, or later in the day, grabbing a chilled beer or large glass of wine and unwinding in the garden after a busy day on the beach!
Garden
The enclosed Garden has a terraced area with a garden table, garden sofa and chairs making it the ideal place to eat alfresco or sit and relax. There is a Belfast sink outside in the garden which is invaluable for rinsing sandy feet and paws.
Parking
A parking permit for one car is included for use in the Runswick Bay Residents Reserved car park - The cottage is located within easy walking distance of the car park. Addiitonal cars must pay for the Pay & Display car park which is also easily accessible from the cottage.
Pets
We do allow one well behaved dog by special arrangement. If pets are bought to the cottage please will visitors ensure they are washed and dried outside after walks - there is a Belfast sink in the garden with a hose attached. Please bring dog towels, bowls and rugs with you and dogs must not be allowed on our furniture or in our beds.
Occupancy
Please note if you book Square Rig for 2 people (and perhaps plus an infant) only one bedroom is made available. If guests need separate bedrooms, the booking must be made at the higher rate. Bedrooms are closed off based on the number of people staying and rate paid.

From the A174, approach Runswick Bay via Ellerby Lane and turn right into the lower village down a steep 1:4 hill.
Square Rig is in the main lower village of Runswick Bay.
Arrive at the mini roundabout and the property can be found on the left. A short walk through the village footpaths leads to the front door.
You can park within 10 yards of the property which is accessed via approx 8 steps to unload your bags, then your car must be parked in the Resident’s car park – a short walk away from the property.
One car parking permit is provided for use in the Resident’s Car park for the duration of your stay. Additional vehicles must park in the public car park. The permit does not guarantee a space.
